Leonardo Adds to Its AW139 Tally

Pakistan has placed additional orders with Leonardo for an undisclosed number of AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters. Deliveries of the helicopters will commence in early 2019.

The new rotorcraft will be used to perform utility, passenger transport and emergency medical service operations in Pakistan. Pakistan has placed multiple orders for the AW139 across several batches and the growing fleet is supported by logistic support and training services from Leonardo.

The AW139’s outstanding hot & high performance has made it the helicopter of choice for the Pakistan Government for EMS/ SAR, relief and transport duties with a significant number of the type already operational. More than 300 customers across 70 countries have placed orders for more than 1000 AW139 rotorcraft and in excess of 900 units are already in service.

Malaysia Gets More AW139, AW189

Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysian Police Air Wing and Malaysia’s Fire & Rescue Service (Bomba), will soon receive new helicopters from Leonardo. The airframer announced that the deliveries of four more AW139 twin-engine helicopters will start later this year.

The Royal Malaysian Police also operates two AW139s inducted in 2017. Two AW189 super-medium class helicopters are currently in final preparation at Subang Airport before delivery to the Bomba, which presently operates AW109 Power and AW139 helicopters. Leonardo has already received more than 150 orders and options for the AW189 till date.
