Leonardo Bags Indonesian Radar Contract

: Nov 19, 2019 - : 4:11 pm

Indonesia has contracted Leonardo for the supply of the RAT 31 DL / M medium range radar. The radar will be used by the Indonesian Air Force’s air defence network.  PT Len Industri (Persero) will work with Leonardo to delivery the contract for Indonesia.

“Len will supply local components, work on the infrastructure, and expert training. However, for the program going forward we plan to joint produce the radars in Indonesia. We will be fully trained in radar maintenance therefore maintenance can be carried out directly by PT Len Industri,” says PT Len’s Director of Operations II, Adi Sufiadi. ‘The contract with the Ministry of Defence is planned to be operational by early 2022,’ Sufiadi adds.

This RAT 31 DL / M Medium Range Radar is classified as a 3 Dimensional or 3D (Range, Azimuth, Height) Radar with surveillance capability (surveillance / guarding) and has a range of up to 400 km and an altitude of 30,000 feet.

“We are in Thailand at the 2019 Defense & Security Expo in order to offer our defense products such as CMS and tactical radio. This is one of first initiatives to go global in the defense electronics business after previously in the field of rail transportation, “Sufiadi says.

PT Len Industri is a member of the NDHI (National Defense & Hitech Industry) BUMN cluster, which is participating at the ongoing exhibition along with Indonesian Aerospace, Pindad, Dahana, and PAL Indonesia.
