At Verticon 2025 in Dallas, Leonardo announced securing nearly 30 helicopter orders for the AW109 GrandNew, AW169, AW139, and AW189 models. The orders, valued at approximately €370 million, will be delivered between 2026 and 2028 to operators across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific for energy support, rescue, public service duties, and VIP transport. Additionally, there are preliminary sales contracts for 15 AW09 single-engine helicopters for customers in Europe and Southeast Asia.
The energy industry was a primary focus, with Leonardo maintaining a 60% market share in offshore transport deliveries over the past five years. The company highlighted the importance of high aircraft availability for offshore operations and the role of data analysis in enhancing service quality and training capabilities. The demand for energy support helicopters is expected to grow over the next five years, driven by new field developments, compliance with environmental regulations, and advanced technology adoption.
In the intermediate and super medium twin-weight categories, the AW139 and AW189 models continue to lead long-range operations. Gama Aviation ordered two AW139s for the UK, while China General Aviation Company (CGAC) purchased three units. The Chinese fleet also expanded with three AW139s for CITIC Offshore Helicopter Company (COHC). Meanwhile, Lufttransport of Norway ordered two AW189s for operations on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The AW169 also gained traction. Petroleum Air Services (PAS) of Egypt ordered five skidded variants for the energy market, while Sabine Harbor Pilots announced the use of two AW169s from HeliService USA for Harbour Pilot Shuttle services in Texas. Additionally, Gama Aviation secured three AW169s with skid undercarriage and a 5.1-tonne Increased Gross Weight (IGW) variant for emergency medical services in the UK.
In the critical care transport sector, Parkview Samaritan in the US ordered an AW169. Australia's LifeFlight and StarFlight ordered four AW139s for emergency medical services, law enforcement, and search and rescue operations. North Slope Borough of Alaska ordered two AW189s for all-weather emergency medical services and search and rescue missions in the Arctic Circle.
In the VIP and corporate transport sector, Sloane of the UK ordered five AW109 GrandNew helicopters. Aero Asahi of Japan ordered two AW169s, while Mitsui Bussan Aerospace committed to eleven helicopters, including AW169, AW139, and AW189 models, for delivery between 2025 and 2027. Synerjet Latina SA, Leonardo's distributor for Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Paraguay, ordered two AW169s and became the distributor for the AW09 single-engine helicopter in the region. The AW09 has amassed nearly 130 preliminary sales contracts globally, with Helitech Asia and Kaan Air of Turkey ordering ten and five units, respectively.
Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director of Leonardo Helicopters, stated, “In recent years we have continued to focus on a modern product mix featuring latest technologies, with constantly growing capabilities and meeting or exceeding the most rigorous certification and safety standards. We’ve maintained a strong commitment to sustainability, and bearing in mind the importance of the level of service to make sure our customers can get the most out of our value proposition.”
“Going progressively digital also continues to be a key driver, truly 360°: on board, on maintenance, on training. The latest announcements at Verticon testify we’re on the right path to further increase our competitive advantage as we keep working towards a constant enhancement of our offer,” he added.
