Our Bureau - : Oct 12, 2022 - : 7:27 am

The first flight test of the Extended-Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (ER GMLRS) took place earlier this minth at White Sands Missile Range, Lockheed Martin has said.

During a round table on the opening day of AUSA 2022, the company added that the missile saw the missile fly 59 kilometers, successfully completing all testing criteria for the short range test. ER GMLRS doubles the range of GMLRS, taking it from 70-80 kilometers to around 150 kilometers. Additional tests will happen through the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

According to the company, the Precision Strike Missile, which will succeed the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), is in its final stage of development, with the program is currently in its engineering and development phase. More Precision Strike Missiles are to be produced for testing and for Early Operational Capability (EOC) with the U.S. Army. The improvements include an increase in range to more than 499 kilometers, more capacity per launcher compared to ATACMS, and the ability to hit moving targets in future increments.
