European missile specialist MBDA has partnered with India’s L&T to create L&T MBDA Missile Systems Ltd, which is making its first public show appearance at the ongoing DefeExpo show in India. The JV partnership between MBDA and L&T was formed last year.
L&T MBDA Missile Systems Ltd is showcasing a number of products, including ATGM5 and Exocet MM40 B3.
The ATGM5 is making its first ever public appearance at the land and naval systems exhibition and the ATGM5 is being offered to meet India’s specific operational requirements and will draw on the next generation technologies of the MMP battlefield anti-tank weapon that recently entered service in France.
The ATGM5 is being offered as a true Indian Designed, Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) product, involving the transfer of next generation key technologies to India, boosting the domestic defence industry sector.
Also being showcased is the latest version of the Exocet missile family, the Exocet MM40 Block 3 which is fitted with a turbojet to extend the range of the system out to 200 km and also receives navigation system enhancements.
The Indian Armed Forces already operate SM 39 and the newer MM40 Exocet Block 3 is being offered byL&T MBDA Missile Systems Ltd in response to India’s RFI for the Medium RangeAnti-Ship Missile.
MBDA’s long-range SmartGlider strike weapon is also making its maiden show appearance and the family of all-up-round glide weapons, with folding wings offers a range of over 100 km. A Rafale will be able to carry as many as 18 SmartGlider strike weapons as each weighs only 120kg.
