The Malaysian military’s modernisation ambitions have been boosted by a series of deals inked at the ongoing LIMA.

A total of 43 contracts valued at approximately USD2.2 billion were inked at the show including important weapons procurements for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) received a formal contract for the supply of 18 FA-50s. The Korean airframer was announced as the winner of the RMAF requirement in February, this year. The contract is estimated to be worth USD920 million.

In addition to this, the Malaysian MoD concluded a deal with Leonardo for supply of two ATR 72 MPAs to the RMAF.

The Malaysian MoD also concluded a contract with Turkish Aerospace Industries for three Anka 2 unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) which meets its Medium Altitude Long Endurance Phase 1 need. The new medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be operated by the RMAF.

The RMAF will also lease four  new Sikorsky UH-60A+ Black Hawk helicopters from Aerotree Defence & Services Sdn Bhd. These helicopters will be used to replace its S-61A Nuris which were grounded in 2020.
