AGlaze International Ltd. and Gryphon Aviation Partners (UK) Ltd. have announced that Maldivian, operated by Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), has become the second floatplane operator to trial the AGlaze Aviation Sealant. Early feedback from the operator indicates encouraging results.
“It's been four days since we applied AGlaze on one of our Twin Otters and we are already seeing noticeable benefits,” said Mohamed Ibrahim, Chief Engineer DHC-6 at IASL. “There is a visible improvement in the aircraft's shine and washing the aircraft has become easier, our team advises. More importantly, we have observed that less exhaust residue is holding on the flame track area. We would now like to continue using this on all our (11) DHC-6 aircraft.”
IASL adopted the sealant after its use by another major floatplane operator, which implemented the product fleetwide following a detailed assessment. The sealant is designed to provide a glossy protective finish while helping to reduce cleaning time and improve ease of maintenance—features considered beneficial for operations in tropical and marine environments.
According to the companies, the feedback from IASL supports growing interest in AGlaze as an aftermarket treatment that can support operational efficiency goals, including reducing chemical and water use during cleaning, which may align with broader environmental and sustainability targets.
AGlaze Aviation Sealant has been applied to various aircraft types globally. In addition to cosmetic and maintenance benefits, the companies highlight its potential contribution to reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Gryphon Aviation Partners has developed a fuel savings calculator using aerodynamic modelling and empirical data to estimate possible reductions in parasitic drag resulting from application of the sealant.
Island Aviation Services Limited, established by Presidential decree as the national airline of the Maldives, operates under the brand name Maldivian. The carrier runs domestic and international services from its base at Velana International Airport, with a fleet that includes an Airbus A330, Airbus A320, DHC-6 floatplanes, Dash 8-300/200s, ATR42/72s, and a newly acquired Airbus A320.
Gryphon Aviation Partners, the exclusive global sales agent for AGlaze Aviation Sealant in the airline sector, is a UK-based project company focused on commercialising technologies aimed at improving sustainability, efficiency, and customer experience in aviation.
