British aerospace company Martin-Baker showcased its latest military escape systems at the Farnborough International Airshow, highlighting the company's next-generation Mk18 ejection seat and an F-16 ejection-seat test sled.
The displays underscored Martin-Baker's role as one of the world's leading manufacturers of aircraft escape systems, supplying ejection seats for a wide range of military aircraft, including the F-35 Lightning II, Eurofighter Typhoon, F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, BAE Hawk and Saab Gripen.
Founded in 1946, the British company has delivered more than 90,000 ejection seats to 93 air forces worldwide. According to Martin-Baker, its systems have saved the lives of more than 7,800 pilots and aircrew through successful emergency ejections.
The Mk18 is the company's newest ejection seat design and forms part of its continued investment in crew-survivability technology as militaries modernize their combat aircraft fleets.
Visitors to the Farnborough exhibition were also able to view an operational ejection seat and the company's test equipment used to evaluate escape-system performance under demanding conditions.
Martin-Baker's ejection seats remain a critical safety system for military aviators, designed to rapidly remove pilots from disabled aircraft during emergencies while maximizing the chances of survival.
