MBDA is showcasing their Meteor, Brimstone and Spear missiles to offer a complete solution to arm the JAS 39 Gripen should the plane win the contract for the Philippine Air Force’s Multi Role Fighter acquisition programme.
Touting its high degree of kill probability, high speed and long range, the Meteor is one of today’s most advanced Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missiles (BVRAAM).
The solid-fueled, ramjet propelled missile enables the missile to reach a cruise speed of more than Mach 4, which multiplies its kinetic performance compared to other BVRAAM of its type.
The Brimstone is a compact air to ground missile with a maximum range of 20 km. Utilizing milimeter wave radar and laser guidance seeker, the missile has a “fire and forget” capability. In addition, due to its compact size each of its launch system can carry three Brimstone missiles
The Spear is a further development of Brimstone missile with long-range strike capability. The Spear missile has a range in excess of 100 km.
