MMP Sea Launched Variant Finds SF User

: May 14, 2019 - : 1:15 pm

Following the successful completion of two test firings of a sea launched version of the MMP missile, the new weapon system is in use with French naval Special Forces (SF). A demonstration of the capabilities of this new variant is being provided by MBDA at IMDEX, which showcases the unique capabilities of the MMP missile, when used for such a role.

Company officials, told Daily News that the French Navy conducted the two test firings six months ago, from a Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) at sea, demonstrating the ability of the MMP to engage from sea against land based or sea based targets. The officials also say that they are confident of the prospects of the maritime version of the MMP in the region.

An RHIB can carry two MMP’s, which are fired using the same launcher as used on land.

The missile which weighs 15kg has a range of 4 km but during the test firings, MMP’s were fired at distances greater than that.

The individual land based launcher is used for smaller vessels such as RIBs and a more complex installation is possible for carriage of the missiles on larger naval ships that will spend months at sea.
