More Sukhoi SU-30SM for Kazakhstan

: May 23, 2018 - : 3:41 pm

Following the inking of a contract in 2017 for the supply of 12 Sukhoi SU-30SM multi-role fighter aircraft for the Kazakhstan Air Defence Forces (KADF), the nation’s Ministry of Defence is seeking to procure additional numbers of the Russian fighter jets.

The additional aircraft are likely to be options set out in the original 12 aircraft deal. Kazakhstan is to receive all 12 aircraft by 2020.

The SU-30SM is the latest variant of the SU-30 and features new avionics, sensors and missiles.

The fighter aircraft is also fitted with an active phased array radar, thrust vectoring engines and canard surfaces. Russia’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), confirmed earlier this year that the Russian Air Force would receive 17 SU-30SM fighters this year.
