NAICO Malaysia Launches MyAERO Challenge at DSA 2026
The National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia) has officially launched the MyAERO Challenge 2026 at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NATSEC) Asia exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. This strategic initiative aims to fortify the national talent pipeline and ensure the long-term sustainability of the country's rapidly expanding aerospace ecosystem. The launch was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Sim Tze Tzin, who highlighted the critical role of skilled human capital in maintaining Malaysia's competitive edge within the Southeast Asian region.
The aerospace sector in Malaysia demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth throughout 2025, recording a total revenue of RM32.5 billion (US$7.63 billion). According to data released by NAICO Malaysia, the industry also generated RM7.96 billion (US$1.87 billion) in trade and successfully attracted new investments totalling RM993.1 million (US$233.22 million). Currently supporting a workforce of approximately 34,700 skilled professionals, the sector is pivoting toward higher-value segments including advanced manufacturing, engineering services, and complex maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities.
Information for this report was primarily sourced from the official press release issued by the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia on 20 April 2026, supplemented by industry data from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). Additional corporate background was provided by Boeing Malaysia and technology firm Meraque.
The MyAERO Challenge 2026 functions as a technical capability platform designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial application. By connecting students and educators with real-world challenges, the programme seeks to align national education outputs with the technical requirements of global giants like Boeing and local technology leaders such as Meraque. This initiative is a core component of the broader Aerospace Competency Development Modules 2026, which will culminate in the MyAERO Summit scheduled for late June at the Malaysia Agriculture Agri-Park (MAEPS) in Serdang.
The corporation also introduced the Supply and Demand Outlook for the Malaysian Aerospace Talent (2026-2030) during the event. This comprehensive study provides a roadmap for workforce requirements over the next five years, identifying specific skills gaps that could hinder future expansion if left unaddressed. Chief Executive Officer of NAICO Malaysia, Ir. Ts. Dr. Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah, emphasised that talent readiness is the primary determinant of global competitiveness as the nation enters a critical growth phase.
Strategically, the initiative supports the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 (MAIB 2030) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). These frameworks are designed to position Malaysia as the premier aerospace economy in Southeast Asia. The involvement of Boeing, which has maintained a presence in Malaysia for 79 years and operates its first wholly-owned Southeast Asian manufacturing facility in Kedah, underscores the importance of the local supply chain to the global aviation market.
Furthermore, the partnership with Meraque integrates artificial intelligence and autonomous systems into the traditional aerospace framework. As a top-ranked global drone service provider, Meraque's role in the MyAERO Challenge involves architecting competency-building initiatives that reflect the digital transformation of the industry. This convergence of aerospace engineering and robotics is expected to enhance the sophistication of the Malaysian workforce, making the nation a vital node in the global aerospace value chain.
