Naval Group and Royal IHC have signed a contract to support the construction of the Royal Netherlands Navy's new Orka-class submarines, a key step in the Replacement of the Netherlands Submarine Capability (RNSC) programme.
The agreement builds on a collaboration that began in 2018, with the two companies bringing together their respective strengths in complex naval and maritime engineering. Under the new contract, Royal IHC will contribute expertise in steel structures and modular construction, supporting the delivery of four conventionally powered submarines to replace the Royal Netherlands Navy’s ageing Walrus-class fleet.
By engaging a leading Dutch shipbuilder, Naval Group aims to reinforce long-term national capability in submarine maintenance and future system upgrades. The collaboration also promotes closer industrial ties between the Dutch and French naval sectors. In line with the Industrial Cooperation Agreement (ICA) signed with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2024, the RNSC programme continues to draw on a growing network of Dutch suppliers, covering technologies such as hydraulics, energy management, acoustic insulation, composite materials, detection systems and filtration.
