New Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3

: Dec 3, 2018 - : 2:11 pm

Rheinmetall Air Defence says its latest Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 HLP remotely controlled, autonomous, network-capable air defence system is evoking great interest in the region. Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 HLP is a single-barrel, low weight, 35 mm automatic cannon with integrated tracking radar and electro-optical sensor unit.

Integrated into the 35mm platform are a tracking / sensor unit with X-band tracking radar and electro-optical sensors, as well as electronic warfare components. This enables swift, autonomous engagement of externally assigned targets.

It is tipped as a possible effector for the Oerlikon Skynex, Rheinmetall’s new design for a fully networked, future ground-based air defence system.

“With a maximum effective range of 4,000 meters, the gun offers very high accuracy and a top rate of fire of 1,000 rounds per minute,” says a company official.

According to the company official, pre- paring the Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 for action only requires two soldiers. Subsequent operation of the system is unmanned, which also contributes to crew safety.

The Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3, which can perform in all weather conditions, can receive and process target data from 2D and 3D search radars. Integrated sensors and a fire control computer give the system an autonomous surveillance and target engagement capability.

“The unique features of the system are increasingly attracting the interest and recognition of several countries in the region,” he adds. It can be controlled from a higher echelon command stories or through an operator station where up to eight guns can be connected. The Revolver Gun Mk3 is mounted on a standard hook-liftable platform (HLP) for easy transport and quick deployment in the field.
