New Zealand’s Search and Rescue Services (SRSL) has ordered four Airbus H145 helicopters to support its emergency medical services (EMS) operations. The new aircraft will be added to SRSL’s existing fleet, which includes H145 and BK117 helicopters.
Christian Venzal, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Australia and New Zealand, stated that the company is proud to contribute to New Zealand’s emergency response efforts. “Helicopter Emergency Medical Services play a vital role in the country, where rugged terrain and remote communities present unique challenges. The integration of the H145 helicopters into SRSL’s operations highlights our shared vision of harnessing advanced rotorcraft solutions to enhance response capabilities, whilst improving safety standards,” he said.
Venzal added that Airbus remains committed to providing its partners with the necessary tools to carry out their missions. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to equipping our partners with the tools they need to overcome the complexities of their missions and continue their vital work in delivering swift, reliable, efficient and safe medical care to those in need,” he said.
The H145 is designed for EMS operations, featuring twin Safran Arriel 2E engines, a spacious cabin, and the Helionix avionics suite. Airbus states that the model has the lowest CO2 emissions in its class. The helicopter is equipped with an advanced cockpit, a Fenestron anti-torque tail rotor, and a system designed to improve flight safety through envelope protection, pilot assistance, and data management.
According to Airbus, approximately 1,740 H145 helicopters are in service globally, with over eight million flight hours recorded. Nearly 600 of these aircraft are used for EMS operations.
