Nexter to Showcase Narwhal at IMDEX

: May 13, 2019 - : 12:55 pm

French artillery systems and ammunition specialist Nexter Systems will display a range of its products suited for maritime operations at IMDEX, as the company looks for further growth to its already successful operations in the region.

Nexter’s main offering in the naval medium-caliber weapons systems market is the NARWHAL (tele-operated and stabilized naval turret) and the 15A / 15B light naval mounts. The NARWHAL is a successful product that is used for short-range self-defence for French and Egyptian FREMM Frigates and has also been supplied for French Mistral Class ships and Horizon Class Frigates.

They are also fitted on Albanian and Lebanese navy patrol boats and Guyanese PLG light patrol craft, in addition to being in use with other navies. The weapon system integrates the 20M621 gun with electro-optical day/night cameras and a moving target tracking function, making it well suited for surveillance and maritime police operations, as also the role of very short-range self-defence missions against drones and light craft.

An important bene- fit of the NARWHAL is the reduced need for an operating crew and its small footprint, which makes it easy to install on various types of vessels, such as fast craft and patrol boat to OPV, frigate and logistics ships.
