Nigeria Follows Other Countries in Lifting Ban on 737 Max

Arun Sivasankaran - : Feb 22, 2021 - : 7:46 am

The ban on Boeing 737 Max operating in Nigerian airspace has been lifted, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said.

The aircraft had been grounded after the two crashes that killed a total of 346 people.  According to Captain Musa Nuhu,  NCAA Director General,  the ban was lifted on Feb. 12.

Many countries have lifted  the ban on the 737 Max in recent months. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was the first to  allow the aircraft to fly again, in November,  followed by Brazil, Canada and Europe.  Earlier this month, The United Arab Emirates civil aviation authority gave its green signal for the aircraft to resume service.

“Lifting the ban on the plane is a result of intensive efforts by the authority’s technical committee which evaluated all the technical requirements from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing and the European Aviation Safety Agency,” said Saif al-Suwaidi, director general of the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority.
