Nigerian A-29 Deal Moves Ahead

The Nigerian Air Force which has counter illicit trafficking in Nigeria and devices, mission planning systems, been pressing for the early delivery of 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, will now receive all aircraft by 2024 as part of a contract worth approximately US$593 million. The Nigerian military has been pressing for the aircraft to conduct operations against terrorist organizations Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa, and Nigerian efforts to counter illicit trafficking in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.

 

The US Department of Defence has awarded the contract to Sierra Nevada Corp worth approximately US$ 344 million, which will include the addition of a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) System for six of the aircraft. In addition to the 12 aircraft, the Nigerian Air Force will also receive ground training devices, mission planning systems, mission debrief systems, spares, ground support equipment and alternate mission equipment. The Super Tucano is ideally suited for counter- terrorism, counter-insurgency, border surveillance, and illicit trade interdiction operations,
