NORINCO Offers VT4 for Central Asian Market

: May 24, 2018 - : 5:56 pm

China North Industries Company (NORINCO) is looking at potential buyers in Central Asia for its latest VT4 main battle tank, built to suit the future information-centric warfare. “There is a huge market for these types of tanks in the region, and we would like to explore the opportunities,” an official at NORINCO tells Daily News on the sidelines of KADEX 2018.

The company claims that the VT4’s overall performances and comprehensive combat capabilities are at par with similar platforms worldwide.

“The 1200 hp engine combined with automatic transmission lend VT4, also known as the MBT3000, exceptional mobility and agility on various difficult terrains and in all weather conditions,” the official says.

The VT4 can run at a maximum speed of 70 km/h and a maximum cross-country speed of 50 km/h. The multi-type reactive armour protection system can effectively fight against anti-tank weapons of many kinds, providing the safety of crew and equipment and alleviating the damage.

The 125 mm tank gun with digital fire control system enables high-precision striking with multi-type ammunitions to effectively neutralise armoured targets, personnel and fortifications. “It can fire gun-launched missile, thus to provide the tank with long-range and asymmetry attack capacity.

Digital command and control system makes the tank sense the battlefield situation and carry out internal and inter-vehicular communication in real time for cooperative and comprehensive awareness of the war situation,” the official adds.

Thailand recently purchased 28 VT4 tanks and its cabinet has approved the repurchase of 10 additional tanks, with the number of orders likely to continue growing. Thailand plans to eventually purchase a total of 49 of these tanks in three batches.
