Orbital ATKs Palletized Weapon System Makes Regional Debut

: Feb 7, 2018 - : 7:39 am

Orbital ATK is showcasing its Palletized Weapon System (PaWS) for the first time in the region at the ongoing Singapore Airshow. PaWS comprises of the combat proven GAU-23 30mm cannon and mission system operators console. “PaWS is being showcased for the first time in the region and its combination of versatility and capability has resulted in strong interest for the gun system here,” a company official tells Daily News. Multiple requests for proposals (RFPs) are currently underway.

The first export customer for PaWS was received in 2014, when Italy ordered the gun system for fitment on C-27J aircraft. The combined weapon system can be fitted on any aircraft that can accept a 463L pallet and only minor modifications are required to be made to the aircraft.

“An experienced crew can install this gun system on an aircraft within a couple of hours,” the official said. The system can be rapidly uploaded and/or downloaded using standard forklift equipment.

Each gun system is fitted with electro-optical/infrared targeting sensors, a trainable 30 mm cannon, precision-guided munitions, advanced communications and a networked mission management system.

Each gun system carries 500 rounds of ammunition.
