Pakistan Ordnance Factories Target Export Markets

: Dec 2, 2018 - : 3:02 pm

Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) is showcasing a range of weaponry and ordnance at the ongoing show as it eyes a greater slice of the defence market in the region. Already a major exporter of defence equipment from Pakistan, POF exports an estimated 50 per cent of all its arms and ammunition production to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

“We are looking at further increasing our presence in the region and hence our participation in the inaugral edition of EDEX,” a company official tells Daily News. Established in 1951. POF is the largest state-owned defence manufacturer in Pakistan and was established in 1951. Company officials also say that POF, is investing in upgrading its production facilities by replacing old plant and machinery with newer and more

Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS 2018) held in Karachi, POF unveiled several new products including an indigenously developed velocity measuring system, a new anti-sub- marine depth charge and an anti-tank mine system. The new velocity measuring system allows ground troops to assess and measure shots fired from weapons up to 20 caliber.

POF’s new depth charge for the Pakistan Navy has been named ‘Depth Charge Mark-II MOD3’. The new air launched anti-submarine depth charge weighs 135 kg and detonates at a depth of 70 metres below the ocean surface. Another new product from POF is an anti-tank mine system that allows mines to be placed from a moving vehicle. This allows the faster creation of a minefield and the mines are fitted with a time delay.
