The Philippine Navy (PN) has launched reservist drills in the northern Philippines, near southern Taiwan, in preparation for evolving maritime security threats.
Around 135 reservists joined the training called Mobilization Exercise (MOBEX) 2025, which was formally opened on Sunday, August 9, in the city of Vigan in Ilocos del Sur. The PN did not specify how long the exercise will last.
According to the Philippine Navy, the participants will take part in a wide range of field training exercises at sea and on land, along with specialized discussions on naval warfare. These activities aim to enhance their skills, coordination, and readiness, underscoring the Reserve Force’s vital role in maritime defense and disaster response.
Specifically, they will rehearse their skills on naval tactics, sea maneuvers, maritime patrols, shipboard operations, land navigation, immediate action drills, tactical combat casualty care, marksmanship, water search and rescue, the incident command system, and other related skills.
“This exercise underscores Northern Luzon Naval Command's steadfast commitment to develop a well-prepared, agile, and dependable Reserve Force, aligned with the overall mission of the Philippine Navy and the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” the Command said.
This year’s iteration of MOBEX was meant to maintain the readiness and responsiveness of the Reserve Force, particularly the Ready Reserve Units to respond to evolving maritime security threats and challenges.
Earlier, Navy chief Vice-Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta said during their 27th founding anniversary in May the PN has steadily grown into a force that is ever prepared to protect the country.
“Our readiness has become even more crucial in navigating the present security environment filled with urgent challenges related to the development in our seas and for the Philippines,” Espelata said.
He added: “We are aware that our country's future is linked to the security of our maritime domain. That is why our navy plays an important role not just in defending national sovereignty and assuring territorial integrity, but in contributing to lasting peace and preserving marine resources that future generations of young Filipinos can inherit.”
