Philippine Army Acquires Armtrac Mine Detector Vehicles

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Apr 12, 2022 - : 2:23 am

The Philippine Army (PA) recently acquired two new Armtrac 100-350 Mk.2 multi-purpose Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) and demining vehicles, said an Army official on Saturday (Apr. 9).

These vehicles, also known in the Philippines as Vehicle Mounted Mine Detectors (VMMD), are part of a PHP110.4 million (US$2.1 million) contract for four VMMDs that was signed between the Philippines Department of National Defense and the UK Minister of Defence in April 2021.

In the PA, these vehicles will be operated by the 525th Engineer Combat Battalion of the 51st Engineer Brigade.

Developed from JCB Fastrac 8000 commercial tractor, Armtrac 100-350 Mk.2 has been up-armored and heavily modified with mine detection and clearing devices to be used for route proving and clearance, as well as a bomb search & detection vehicle. If required, the vehicle can still be used as a conventional tractor to assist in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) missions.

Armtrac is a privately owned company based in Cambridgeshire, Eastern England. The company specializes in manufacturing explosive ordnance disposal vehicles – both manned and unmanned – and their related equipment and accessories. Established in 1990, the company’s products have been exported to Colombia, Egypt, France, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and other countries.

The PA is expecting to receive two more Armtrac 100-350 Mk.2 VMMDs in July 2023.
