PT Pindad reaffirmed its role in the ongoing transformation of Indonesia’s defence industry by unveiling several new defence and security technologies during the ongoing Indo Defence 2024 Expo & Forum.
The event was officially opened by President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
In his remarks, President Prabowo highlighted the importance of the exhibition as a platform for following the latest developments in defence-related science and technology. The exhibition was described as an opportunity for both domestic and international defence industries to observe emerging trends and innovations in the sector.
The Minister of Defence reported that Indo Defence had evolved into a major international forum for showcasing defence technologies, promoting industrial collaboration, and presenting innovations from both Indonesian and global manufacturers. Among the Indonesian participants, PT Pindad was said to be exhibiting key products including the Maung MV3 Tactical EV, Harimau APC, and the latest generation SS3 assault rifle.
PT Pindad President Director Sigit P. Santosa conveyed appreciation for the continued support provided by the President and the Minister of Defence, which was described as instrumental in driving the company's transformation into a competitive, independent and sustainable national defence enterprise. It was stated that Indo Defence 2024 provided an opportunity for the company to present its latest developments, such as the Pandu EV, Harimau APC, Anoa 3, and SS3-M1.
During the opening day, President Prabowo and the Minister of Defence also inaugurated the Pandu EV, an all-electric 4x4 tactical vehicle derived from the MV3 platform. The vehicle, designed to support the operational needs of the Indonesian Armed Forces, uses a 3-in-1 Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and a lithium battery (NMC type). It is capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h and offers a driving range of up to 400 kilometres.
Following the inauguration, the President and Defence Minister visited Pindad’s display in the DEFEND ID pavilion at Hall A 279. The visit was followed by a contract-signing ceremony between the Ministry of Defence and several industry partners, including PT Pindad. The company’s President Director signed the agreements alongside other participating firms. These contracts were expected to accelerate the delivery of defence capabilities for the 2024–2025 period and strengthen Indonesia’s modernisation efforts.
Among the key products displayed was the SS3-M1, a modular and ergonomic assault rifle designed to succeed the earlier SS1 and SS2 models. The rifle integrates a handguard-mounted aim-lock system and vertical grip to support accessory mounting and improve shooting accuracy.
Pindad also introduced several other new weapons and ammunition systems, including the SPS-1 anti-drone system, the SS Amphibious, and the SM5-A1 heavy machine gun. A wide variety of small arms were on display, covering models such as the SS2, Designated Marksman Rifles (SPM/DMR), Sniper Rifles (SPR), Machine Guns (SM), Grenade Launchers (SPG), the SS Blackout variant, mortar systems, and Remote-Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS).
Its ammunition range included small-, medium-, and large-calibre types, with recent innovations covering 40 mm AGL grenades, underwater munitions, and the MK81 RI live bomb.
In the optics and soldier equipment segment, the company introduced its Night Vision Goggles (NVG) system, designed to enhance visibility in low-light environments. The NVG features a wide 40-degree field of view and incorporates the latest generation Image Intensifier Tube. It can be used handheld, mounted on combat helmets, or integrated into weapons systems for reconnaissance and combat applications.
In the armoured vehicle category, PT Pindad showcased the latest Anoa 3 6x6, a redesigned version of its wheeled APC platform. The new model includes engine performance improvements and increased protection levels based on operational feedback. It can transport up to 12 personnel, offers ballistic protection compliant with STANAG Level 2 (upgradeable to Level 4), and mine protection in accordance with STANAG 4569 Level 3b. It is compatible with RCWS systems ranging from 7.62 mm to 12.7 mm.
The company also introduced the Harimau APC, a tracked armoured personnel carrier derived from the existing Harimau Medium Tank platform. The vehicle was said to incorporate shared design features and components with the medium tank to simplify user operation, maintenance, and logistical support. The Harimau APC supports up to 13 personnel and offers ballistic protection to STANAG 4569 Level 3 and mine protection to Levels 4a and 3b. It is compatible with a 12.7 mm RCWS and is equipped with an automatic fire suppression system, laser warning receivers, and gunfire detection sensors
