Swatter, a Portuguese technology startup, has developed a new anti-drone system designed to counter the growing threat posed by unauthorised unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The company has created the SPG Vanguard System, which integrates a Spoofing Portable Gun (SPG) and a Control Station Spoofing System (C3S), offering a novel approach to counter-UAS (CUAS) operations through both jamming and spoofing capabilities.
The company will present the SPG Vanguard System at the DSEI Japan 2025 defence and security exhibition in Tokyo, taking place from 20 to 23 May 2025. Swatter is currently seeking partners and investors to support the system’s continued development and facilitate international market entry.
Founded in 2021, Swatter consists of four co-founders with backgrounds in electrical engineering, computer science, and aerospace. The team focuses on the development of dual-use technologies for both civil and defence applications. The SPG Vanguard System has achieved Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL 7), indicating the system has been tested in relevant environments and demonstrated to interested parties.
The SPG Vanguard System addresses the increasing number of incidents involving unauthorised drones, particularly around sensitive areas such as airports and correctional facilities. These incidents have more than doubled in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for effective CUAS solutions.
Swatter’s system includes two core components:
Swatter claims the integration of jamming and spoofing in a portable CUAS configuration is a unique feature in the market. The company aims to expand internationally and contribute to the growing demand for drone defence solutions in both civil and military sectors, where drones are increasingly being used for reconnaissance, surveillance, and even offensive operations.
Swatter invites potential partners and investors to explore opportunities for collaboration and support the company's mission to become a competitive international player in the counter-drone sector.
