Pratt & Whitney Signs Various Deals

Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp., has signed several contracts on the sidelines of the ongoing Singapore Airshow.

With Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines has signed a 15-year pact with Pratt & Whitney for its EngineWise fleet management program. The agreement will cover Turkish Airlines’ future fleet of 92 A321neo aircraft powered by the Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines.

“With this fleet management agreement, we are confident we will be able to further optimize our aircraft engine performance, which in turn will benefit our customers,” said Levent Konukcu, SVP Investment Management at Turkish Airlines. “We look forward to our GTF-powered aircraft entering revenue service later this year, which will continue to revolutionize the aviation industry.”

Since entering into service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 50 percent to the regulatory standard, and to lower the noise footprint by 75 percent.

SWISS Selects Pratt & Whitney

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has selected Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines to power 15 total Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019.

“SWISS was the first airline to fly the GTF-powered Bombardier C Series aircraft,” said Peter Wojahn, Head of Technical Fleet Management at SWISS.

“We are pleased with the engine’s fuel efficiency and environmental performance, and our passengers appreciate the noise efficient engines. We look forward to adding the GTF-powered A320neo and A321neo to our fleet.”

SWISS currently operates a fleet of 15 GTF-powered Bombardier C Series aircraft, including both the CS100 and CS300 models, with another 15 aircraft on order.

Aviation Capital Group Selects Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan™ Engines

Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has selected Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan™ (GTF) engines to power an additional seven firm A320neo family aircraft.

This brings the leasing company’s total to 20 firm GTF-powered A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

“We are pleased to increase ACG’s total commitment for Pratt & Whitney engines,” said Khanh T. Tran, chief executive officer at Aviation Capital Group. “ACG’s airline customers appreciate the increased fuel efficiency of the GTF engine.”

“We appreciate ACG adding additional engines to its fleet,” said Rick Deurloo, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Support at Pratt & Whitney. “We look forward to supplying ACG and its airline customers with game-changing technology and unmatched fuel efficiency. This order demonstrates renewed and well-placed confidence in the GTF engine.”

Agreement with Qantas Airways

Pratt & Whitney Canada signed a new contract with Qantas Airways for the maintenance of an additional 51 Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) on a variety of aircraft flown by the Qantas Group.

“This is a significant achievement for P&WC because with this contract signing, almost all P&WC APUs flown by Qantas are now under maintenance agreements,” says Marty Kessell, Vice President, APU Market, P&WC.

P&WC offers several types of APU maintenance agreements to suit customers’ varying needs and operational environments. The pay-per-hour (PpH) plan allows the customer to make monthly payments based on a set rate for every hour flown to cover ongoing maintenance costs. The event cost plan allows the customer to pay for hours flown at the time of the shop visit for the specific maintenance event, rather than on a monthly basis. P&WC also has a material cost guarantee plan which is offered to customers who do their own repairs in their own shops.

In many cases, P&WC also provides spare-part support options which complement these APU maintenance support programs. P&WC’s service plans provide excellent value and flexibility to customers and allow for predictive costs.

P&WC currently has more than 10,700 APUs in service in 19 different models. The entire P&WC APU fleet has flown more than 105 million hours. Today, there are nearly 3,000 P&WC APUs currently enrolled in maintenance programs.

New Data Analytics Capabilities for V2500 Engines

Pratt & Whitney has launched new data analytics capabilities for its V2500 engines as a result of achieving a supplemental type certificate for the Airbus A321 aircraft powered by the V2500 engine.

“Last year, we launched our EngineWise services brand, which represents a commitment to sharing intelligence with customers to develop the best solutions together,” said Eva Azoulay, vice president, Engine Services at Pratt & Whitney. “With this supplemental type certificate, we are able to expand our current EngineWise data analytics capabilities for our customers currently flying the A321 aircraft and be more agile and flexible than ever before.”

As a result of the supplemental type certificate, Pratt & Whitney will be better able to develop aftermarket services catered to customer’s needs and respond faster and better to incidents in the field utilizing the eFAST data ecosystem on these aircraft.

Under the EngineWise services brand, Pratt & Whitney is investing in data acquisition and predictive analytics tools that enable both operators and Pratt & Whitney to make recommendations that reduce operational disruptions and increase aircraft utilization. eFAST has the ability to capture thousands of engine and aircraft data parameters throughout the full flight cycle instead of snapshots at takeoff and cruise, allowing for better monitoring of engine performance, minimizing disruptions and predicting future maintenance visits. Operators can then use Pratt & Whitney’s suite of engine health management tools for better visibility into their fleet and overall operations.

The V2500 engine is offered through IAE International Aero Engines AG, a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corporation; Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH; Japanese Aero Engines Corporation; and MTU Aero Engines GmbH.
