PT PAL Indonesia formalised several cooperation agreements with international partners at the recently concluded Indo Defence 2025 exhibition, marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s defence industrial base. The agreements span platform development, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of weapons systems, and the advancement of the company’s submarine business.
"There were a total of seven agreements signed," said Wiyono Komodjojo, Chief of Marketing Officer (CMO) of PT PAL Indonesia.
Wiyono specified several key partnerships, including a strategic alliance with the Turkish shipyard TAIS to develop combatant and non-combatant vessel platforms, as well as the implementation of offset programmes within Indonesia. He added that PT PAL also signed an agreement with Bofors covering MRO activities for 40 mm and 57 mm calibre weapons systems.
"These weapon systems have already been put into service by the naval fleet including by the Indonesian Navy," he said.
In addition, Wiyono said that PT PAL signed agreements related to Scorpene Evolved submarine and Frigate business enhancement with Naval Group during Indo Defence 2025. PT PAL also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iridium to prepare for a Joint Venture under an Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) arrangement.
"These arrangements represent many international symbiotic relationships that are used to solidify the defense industry and generate diplomatic impact," emphasized Wiyono.
PT PAL’s participation at Indo Defence 2025 drew strong interest from visitors, particularly defence attachés from various foreign countries. In addition to showcasing its existing products, such as the hospital ship and frigate, the company also unveiled new developments including a Combat Management System (CMS) for warships and an unmanned autonomous submarine.
“One global partner has shown interest to procure and wants to see their next testing and sea trials,” added Wiyono.
He said that PT PAL’s involvement in Indo Defence 2025 was part of a larger vision of establishing the domestic defence industrial ecosystem, beyond just the interest of a business entity.
“This mission is more than for PT PAL, it is about bringing domestic companies slowly away from foreign dependence, creating their own technology and human resources,” Wiyono concluded.
