PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) and Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore cooperation in the production of aerostructure components on Wednesday (Sept. 7). The signing of the MoU occurred during the G20 Development Working Group event held in Belitung, Indonesia.
Airbus was represented by the Head of Asia-Pacific for Airbus Defense and Space, Johan Pelissier, and the Head of Asia-Pacific for Airbus Helicopters, Vincent Dubrule while PTDI was represented by its President Director, Gita Amperiawan. The signing of the MoU was also witnessed by the Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa, and the French Minister of State for Development and International Partnership, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou.
“Airbus is a strategic partner that can contribute to PTDI's transformation to become a major player in the aviation industry in the region. By combining the competencies of their respective industries, we believe this MoU will maintain and strengthen the strategic partnership between PTDI and Airbus," said Gita Amperiawan.
"This MoU aims to strengthen strategic cooperation that does not only position Indonesia as a market but also PTDI to become a more significant aircraft industry player based on joint collaboration products between PTDI and Airbus in the future. In addition, this MoU also aims to encourage increased industrial capabilities and the development of domestic ecosystems, where PTDI itself is a global supply chain and integrator for several domestic component industries," he added.
“Airbus and PTDI have had a long cooperative relationship since 1976, starting with a license to manufacture the NC212 tactical aircraft and the NBO-105 helicopter. The MoU signed today is an extension of a 40-year partnership and will cover a wider range of manufacturing and engineering expertise,” said Anand Stanley, the President of Airbus Asia-Pacific.
“Airbus is committed to maintaining its position as Indonesia's largest partner in the aviation industry and we look forward to continuing to enhance our cooperative relationship with PTDI."
The MoU will oversee the cooperation between PTDI with Airbus Defense and Space and Airbus Helicopters in developing the aerostructural component production business. Both parties will develop strategic roadmaps that prioritize each other's competitiveness and support the growth and strengthening of the national aerospace ecosystem.
Airbus will support PTDI in areas related to resource and schedule planning, as well as technical and management support.
