PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has signed a contract with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense for the procurement of six AW189 heavy-lift transport helicopters. The agreement was formalized on the opening day of the Indo Defence 2024 Expo & Forum.
The contract was symbolically signed by PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan, witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. This acquisition is part of a broader effort to strengthen Indonesia's air defense posture through the introduction of reliable, modern, and adaptable military equipment. The AW189 helicopters are expected to enhance the mobility and operational range of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).
Beyond the immediate procurement, this agreement is anticipated to expand PTDI's capabilities in the helicopter sector. This includes the development of technical expertise, maintenance capacities, and the growth of supporting industries. Such expansion is set to enhance PTDI's "capability list, reinforcing its standing as a key aerospace industry hub in the region.
PTDI states its readiness to meet national air fleet requirements, emphasizing its commitment to supporting Indonesia's defense independence. According to Gita Amperiawan, the helicopter acquisition will accelerate PTDI's transformation, aiming to strengthen the national supply chain and increase the competitiveness and self-reliance of Indonesia's aerospace industry.
PTDI continues to play a significant role in fulfilling national air fleet needs for both defense and non-defense purposes. The company is actively pursuing enhanced competitiveness through technological advancements, leveraging domestic industrial capacity, and expanding into global markets.
