PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has signed a contract to sell five N219 aircraft to the Setdco Group, representing the Democratic Republic of Congo. The agreement was formalized by PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan and Setdco Group CEO Setiawan Djody at the Bali International Convention Center on Tuesday (Sep. 3).
"Congo has purchased five units of the N219 Nurtanio aircraft, made in Indonesia. The Congolese government also wants to learn how to develop planning, how Indonesia could achieve what it is today, and they are impressed. Indonesia itself will also learn from Congo regarding the management of natural resources,” said Indonesia's Minister of National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa who attended the signing.
“The government certainly opens up opportunities to share knowledge for future development," he added.
The N219 aircraft is designed for use in areas with challenging terrain and limited infrastructure, making it suitable for regions in Africa, which has a growing need for regional aircraft. PTDI is also targeting other international markets, including Asia Pacific and Africa, for its aircraft.
Gita Amperiawan, PTDI President Director, stated, "We are targeting the N219 aircraft not only for the domestic market but also for international markets, especially in the Asia Pacific and Africa regions. With the N219 aircraft, we provide suitable air transportation solutions to meet the needs of several regions in Africa. This is also part of our commitment to supporting economic development by increasing connectivity between regions."
This agreement is seen as a significant development in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and African countries, expanding PTDI's market reach in Africa, and reinforcing Indonesia's position as a strategic partner in the region.
The contract with Setdco Group follows a previous order from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense for six N219 aircraft for the Indonesian Army. PTDI is also looking to expand the use of the N219 aircraft in both the domestic and international civil sectors. Additionally, at the end of 2023, PTDI received a Letter of Intent for 25 N219 aircraft for the Chinese market.
In a separate agreement signed at the Mulia Hotel in Bali, PTDI and A.D. Trade Belgium Company reached a Framework Agreement for the procurement of two CN 235-220 Military Transport aircraft for the Congolese Air Force. The deal also includes a maintenance contract for two CN 235-220 aircraft for the Senegalese Air Force.
