PTDI To Develop CN-235 To Fire Fighting, Medevac Versions

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Feb 4, 2022 - : 2:57 am

PTDI, the Indonesian state-owned company in aircraft manufacturing, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for CN-235 sales and development with Jet Investment Group SARL, a Limited Liability Company based in Genèva, Switzerland.

The MoU was signed in Bandung, West Java on Wednesday.

“CN-235 is one of our products that I think is very successful,” said said Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, who was witnessing the event, said. “Hundreds have been used all over the world. Many countries want to buy it and finally we have cooperated with Jet Investment to market it together. I fully support cooperation in marketing PTDI’s products, especially the CN-235, to the international market,” he added.

Prabowo has also set the target for PTDI to expand its CN-235 production capacity six-fold from four to twenty four aircraft per year. This is in line with PTDI’s plan to develop CN-235 aircraft into firefighting and medical evacuation versions, both to be used domestically as well as to meet the international market’s demands.

The Indonesian Defense Ministry has also put a new order for ten CN-235s with an option for a yet-unspecified number of the aircraft. However, it’s still unknown whether this order is solely for the transport version or whether there will also be other versions in the mix.

CN-235 is a medium range, twin turboprop transport aircraft jointly developed and produced by CASA of Spain (now Airbus Military) and PTDI in the early 1980’s. Since its first flight in 1983, it has been exported to no less than 35 countries. The aircraft has also been developed into various versions such as maritime patrol, anti-submarine and light gunship.
