PTDI’s N219 To Enter Mass Production In 2023

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Aug 29, 2022 - : 6:47 pm

Indonesian state-owned aircraft manufacturer, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), has announced that the company will begin producing its N219 aircraft in 2023.

PTDI’s CEO, Gita Amperiawan tells local media that the company will start the production of the N219 in mid-2023 with an output capacity of four aircraft per year. The output quantity will then gradually increase to 10 aircraft per year in a few years.

“Our future plan is to commercialize aircraft products such as the N219, NC212, and N230,” he said on Saturday (Aug. 27). “(As for the N219), In the next half year, we hope that the N219 will start mass production. The first stage is four units, then increases to six, eight, up to 10 units per year,” he added.

He noted that among the first customers for the N219, the Indonesian Defense Ministry has ordered 10 aircraft. Some of the countries’ departments and local provincial governments have also expressed their interest to acquire the aircraft.

He expressed his hope that with the commercialization of PTDI’s aircraft products, the company is aiming to increase production capacity and expand its market. Currently, PTDI’s products are still dominated by the domestic market while the foreign opportunities have not been fully exploited.

The N219 is a 19-seater utility aircraft designed and built by PTDI. The aircraft performed its first flight in 2017 and is projected to compete in the same segment as similar-class, semi-prepared runway capable aircraft such as DHC-6 Twin-Otter, Dornier-228, and others.

PTDI is also developing the amphibious variant of the aircraft, replacing its main undercarriage with twin pontoons. The so-called N219A (Amphibious) version is expected to take its first flight in 2024.
