Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) and the state-owned airline of Angola, TAAG Angola Airlines E.P., have entered a six-year agreement under the Fleet Management Program (FMP). This contract encompasses engine maintenance services for TAAG's PW150A engines, which power their Dash 8-400 regional turboprop fleet. The agreement provides Pratt & Whitney with the flexibility to tailor coverage to suit the airline's operational requirements.
"Airlines that provide regional connectivity such as TAAG play a vital role in helping customers travel to major urban centers, often for connections to international destinations," said Irene Makris, vice president, Customer Service, Pratt & Whitney Canada in the company’s press release on Wednesday (May 1st).
"Consequently, the dispatch reliability of regional aircraft plays a critical role in keeping the entire ecosystem operating efficiently and economically. By maintaining TAAG's PW150A engines we are helping to ensure optimal aircraft availability and engine asset management," she added.
The agreement incorporates Pratt & Whitney's proprietary oil-analysis technology along with its FAST diagnostic and prognostic solution. This system captures, analyses, and wirelessly transmits comprehensive flight data intelligence to the customer shortly after engine shutdown.
"With a roughly 75-passenger capacity, optimal fuel efficiency, and overall reliability, the PW150A-powered Dash 8-400 fits our needs," said Nelson de Oliveira, CEO, TAAG Angola Airlines.
"P&WC's FMP program is ideal for us as we can rely on the proven expertise of the engine original equipment manufacturer to ensure we gain maximum productivity and efficiency from our PW150A engines."
According to Pratt & Whitney, the company’s Fleet Management Programs offer flexible and cost-effective maintenance planning solutions that streamline fleet operations management and reduce operating costs. Customised to meet the specific requirements of fleet operators and airlines, these programs enable customers to concentrate on their core business while alleviating the administrative and logistical burdens associated with maintaining a dedicated maintenance facility.
The PW100/PW150 engine family, powering 90% of regional turboprop aircraft with passenger capacities ranging from 30 to 90, celebrates its 40th anniversary of service entry in 2024. These engines are claimed to consume 25 to 40% less fuel and emit 50% fewer CO2 emissions compared to similar-sized regional jets. The company also claims that the engines offer airlines favourable life cycle costs while preserving the value of their aircraft.
