Qatar Airways Cargo to Work for More Women in Aviation

Arun Sivasankaran - : Mar 9, 2021 - : 12:48 am

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Qatar Airways Cargo has pledged to work for gender diversity at senior levels in aviation.

“Women are flying high in aviation, but we must do better,” the company said in a press release. “Women not only belong in our industry, they are essential to it. This day reminds us – women and men alike – that we must continue to inspire progress for women to rise to new heights in aviation.

Our industry offers a wealth of possibilities, it is innovative, and it is changing. It is diverse and it welcomes skills and drive.”

Qatar Airways Cargo serves more than 60 freighter destinations worldwide from its Doha hub and also delivers freight on the belly-hold deck of passenger aircraft to an extensive network. The Qatar Airways Cargo fleet includes two Boeing 747-8 freighters and 24 Boeing 777 freighters.

Last year, the International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA) released “Soaring Through the Glass Ceiling,” a  study that validates the data behind the need for and value of integrating women into leadership in the aviation and aerospace industry.  The study, based on interviews with over 2,400 industry participants,  identified both the enablers and inhibitors of gender diversity in the industry.

Some of the main issues that study participants highlighted in the study were lack of opportunity for advancement or upward mobility, lack of adequate number of female executives or board members, unclear understanding of potential career paths, and a perception of male-dominance in the industry.
