Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall AG, and Indra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on armoured vehicle projects for the Spanish Armed Forces.
This partnership further strengthens the established alliance between Rheinmetall and Indra, which has previously led to agreements in other areas, including the recent collaboration with Rheinmetall Electronics on the Leopard 2E Combat System.
Rheinmetall is the original designer of several vehicles, including the KEILER NG Armoured Breaching Vehicle. The company also holds significant technological contributions to the Leopard 2A4 tank. With its subsidiary REM S.A.U., The company has a strong presence in Spain, offering expertise in vehicle design, manufacture, and support.
Indra, a Spanish defence company, is the designer of thermal cameras and the manufacturer of the Leopard 2E combat system in Spain under licence from Rheinmetall Electronics. The company also supplies the Lince BMS, which is currently used in the Spanish Leopard 2 fleet. Indra has developed the MAESTRE Mission System for the Spanish Army’s VCR 8x8 vehicles and serves as the primary design authority for Spain’s BMS. Additionally, Indra has extensive experience in Leopard 2 electronics systems and simulation solutions.
Indra continues to invest in capabilities for the integration and production of armoured vehicles in Spain, including the development of specific facilities for these operations.
Eduardo Veen Martinez, CEO Rheinmetall Business Unit Tactical Vehicles, said: “With this MoU, Indra and Rheinmetall, two leading European companies in the field of defence technology, start a strong alliance to support the efforts of the Spanish Armed Forces to modernize their fleet of combat vehicles.”
Ángel Escribano, Chairman of Indra Group, stated: “The agreement with Rheinmetall represents a significant step forward in Indra’s strategy of forming alliances and partnerships to strengthen its military vehicle manufacturing and digitalization capabilities in Spain” and he added, "This is an example of what Europeans can achieve when working together."
