RMAF Extends Makila 2A Engine Support with Safran

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has extended its contract for Makila 2A engine support with Safran Helicopter Engines and Global Turbine Asia (GTA).

Safran Makila 2A engines power RMAF H225M helicopters and was per the renewed agreement, over 30 Makila engines will continue to be covered by Safran’s Global Support Package (GSP).

The RMAF has a fleet of 12 H225M helicopters which have been in service since 2012.

The RMAF has contracted for GSP since 2014 and the agreements have proved their efficiency to satisfy RMAF’s requirements for optimum availability during their operations. GSP is part of EngineLife  Services, Safran’s range of solutions for helicopter engine operators.

Herve Pasbecq, Managing Director of Safran Helicopter Engines Asia, said: “the contract renewal demonstrate the relationship we have built with RMAF over the years and marks a new milestone in our partnership. We are extremely proud of this continuous commitment for a GSP contract to support Makila-powered rotorcrafts as we are committed to offering world-class support to our operators”.

This agreement is executed through GTA, the certified maintenance center supporting all military and civil engines in Malaysia.

GTA, in partnership with Safran, provides helicopter engine depot repair, inventory management and technical support expertise to ensure fleet availability.

Under the GSP, the customer receives the guarantee to have serviceable engines available whenever they need them. Other acclaimed GSP principles include budget predictability thanks to fixed-price per flying hour and a close technical partnership with the OEM.

In March 2019 at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA), the RMAF achieved the milestone of logging the most number of flight hours worldwide in 2018 as a H225M military operator.

The RMAF’s H225Ms have also participated in various exercises and humanitarian missions, including flood rescue and lifesaving operations.
