Roketsan Grows Smart Micro Munition Family

Our Bureau - : Nov 1, 2022 - : 7:33 pm

Turkish defence firm Roketsan now offers a wide range of smart micro munitions for the export market. Roketsan is producing the MAM-L, MAM-C and MAM-T smart micro munitions which continue to receive strong interest in global defence markets. The MAM-T adds to the combat potential of armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and was developed to address a need for greater warhead efficiency and longer range. The MAM-T builds on Roketsan’s experience gained with MAM-L and MAM-C munitions. MAM-T’s first firing test was completed from a Bayraktar AKINCI armed UAV and in this test, the AKINCI UCAV deployed MAM-C, MAM-L and MAM-T smart micro munitions which all successfully destroyed their intended targets.

The MAM-T has been optimised in terms of weight/efficiency and can be used against armoured or unarmoured vehicles, buildings and surface targets. Along with the midcourse guidance capabilities, the ammunition provides precision kill capability against moving and stationary targets in its BLOCK-1 configuration. Designed to be compatible with different platforms, the MAM-T can engage targets from distances of 60 km when carried on a light attack aircraft and 80 kilometres from fighter aircraft. The MAM-T weighs 95 kg and has a length of 1.4 m and a diameter of 230 mm. It carries a blast fragmentation warhead and engage targets at a range of 30+km when carried on a UAV. The MAM-T is fitted with a laser seeker.

The MAM-L is 1m in length and has a 22 kg warhead. Three warhead types are available – High Explosive blast fragmentation, armour-piercing and thermobaric. It has a range of 15 km and can attain a maximum altitude from target/sea level of 25,000 feet. The MAM-C is 970 mm in length and weighs 6.5 kg. It can carry two types of warheads – High Explosive blast fragmentation and multi-purpose warhead. The MAM-C can engage targets out to a distance of 8 km. The MAM-L has been in service with the Turkish Armed Forces since 2016, while the MAM-C entered service in 2018.
