Turkish defence company Roketsan has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Indonesia’s PT Republikorp to establish a missile production facility in the Southeast Asian country. The agreement was signed on Wednesday (Feb. 12) as reported by Indonesian news media outlet, Kompas.
While specific details of the JV have not been disclosed, the collaboration is expected to involve the development and production of various Roketsan missile systems. These may include the Atmaca anti-ship missile and other "multi-platform" missiles, including those previously ordered by Indonesia.
Indonesia has made several missile acquisitions from Roketsan in recent years. In 2022, the country ordered an undisclosed number of KHAN tactical ballistic missiles, an export version of the BORA system used by the Turkish Armed Forces since 2008. The KHAN missiles, with a range of 280 km, are expected to be delivered in 2025. That same year, Indonesia placed orders for HISAR-O medium-range and HISAR-U (SIPER) long-range air defence missiles.
Additionally, the Indonesian Navy has confirmed an initial order of 45 Atmaca anti-ship cruise missiles to be deployed on its vessels. The Indonesian Air Force has also shown interest in Roketsan’s MAM-L glide bombs, which could be used with Turkish drones under consideration for procurement, though no formal order has been confirmed.
The agreement between Roketsan and PT Republikorp follows the signing of a JV between Baykar Makina and PT Republikorp earlier the same day to establish a facility for manufacturing TB3 and Akinci drones. It is likely that the Roketsan-Republikorp JV will also be involved in producing munitions for these drones.
