Roketsan Showcases Missile Development Prowess

: May 23, 2018 - : 4:23 pm

Turkish missile specialist Roketsan is seeking new markets for its well accepted range of missile weaponry and Kazakhstan’s strong ties with Turkey provide a significant opportunity for future sales.

Roketsan is showcasing a range of missile products at the ongoing show of which the Laser Guided Long Range Anti-Tank Missile L-UMTAS and Laser Guided Missile CİRİT are two important weapon types.

It was late last year, that Roketsan demonstrated its ability to integrate the two missile types on an Airbus C295 Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft. This proposed “Armed ISR” version of the C295 is fitted with air-to-ground munitions designed and manufactured by Roketsan. In addition to the L-UMTAS and CİRİT, Roketsan is working to integrate the Laser Guidance Kit TEBER.

The addition of these weapons will dramatically enhance the air-to-ground engagement capabilities of the aircraft. The L-UMTAS was primarily developed as a long range anti-tank missile system for use on attack helicopters platforms and was qualified and integrated to TAI T-129 Atak Helicopter in 2016 and series production has been underway since 2017. The 2.75” Laser Guided Missile CİRİT is combat proven and is the main armament on the T-129 and work is also underway to integrate the missile on existing helicopters programmes of different countries.

CİRİT has been developed by Roketsan to fill the gap between 2.75” unguided rockets and heavier anti-tank guided missiles. The CİRİT missile is stored in a canister which makes for easier loading/unloading of the missile and for long-term storage.
