The Yak-130 advanced combat training aircraft, the MiG-29M multirole frontline fighter, the Mi-17V-5, Mi-171Sh military transport helicopters are among the weapons systems that Russia’s state arms seller Rosoboronexport is highlighting at FAMEX.
Company officials told Daily News that over 200 Russian weapons that are being featured at the event stand a bright chance of finding takers not only in Mexico but also the whole of the Latin American market.
Some of the other products that the company is highlighting are the Ka-52 and Mi-28NE gunships, the light Ka-226T multirole helicopter, and the Mi-35M trans-port and attack helicopter.
The company expects to find takers for the Orion-E, Orlan-10E and Takhion drones in the region. Company officials believe there is plenty of interest in Latin American market for the Pantsyr-S1 air defense missile/gun system, the Viking and Buk-M2E surface-to-air missile systems, the man-portable Verba and Igla-S anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Russian arms, which have lower price tags compared to most US weapons, have been increasingly sought after by militaries in Latin America. Cuba, Peru, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Brazil top the list of countries that buy weapons from Russian companies.
