Rostec State Corporation is launching several advanced air-defence technologies in Dubai, including the new Pantsir-SMD-E surface-to-air missile system and a compact short-range surveillance radar, both appearing in the Middle East for the first time.
The system drew significant interest earlier this year at the IDEX exhibition in Abu Dhabi, where international delegations highlighted growing concern over large-scale drone attacks. The Pantsir-SMD-E’s rooftop-deployable architecture and expanded ammunition capacity are designed specifically to address those challenges. “The threat of large-scale UAV attacks is now recognized worldwide,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of Rostec’s Weapons Cluster. “This modular Pantsir system provides a flexible solution for protecting industrial, social, and transport infrastructure. We expect strong interest at Dubai Airshow 2025.”
Developed by High-Precision Systems, the Pantsir-SMD-E can counter rapidly evolving UAV threats. The modular system is designed to protect industrial, administrative, and critical infrastructure sites, and is capable of engaging all types of aerodynamic targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles. Its launcher can be loaded with up to 48 miniature guided missiles or 12 standard missiles, giving operators flexibility to defend against both massed drone attacks and conventional airborne threats.
Also making its regional debut is Rostec’s compact short-range airspace surveillance radar which weighs just 45 kg. It can be transported on mobile platforms, and detect medium-sized UAVs at 7.5 km or more. The system gives operators an easily deployable sensor for monitoring drones and low-flying aircraft.
Rostec is also presenting an airspace control system designed to detect and track UAVs, cruise missiles, and other airborne threats. Its capabilities extend to low-altitude, low-speed targets, addressing the most difficult profiles in modern air defence.
The display will include the Verba short-range man-portable air-defence system (MANPADS), capable of engaging aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, and cruise missiles even under heavy optical jamming conditions. For mobility, operators can pair Verba with the Dzhigit twin-launcher unit. The system can be deployed in as little as three minutes and fires two Verba or Igla missiles. It can be used as a fixed launcher, mounted on a vehicle, or disassembled for transport by a two-person crew.
