Pratt & Whitney Canada has entered into a maintenance agreement at the ongoing Defense and Security show with the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) for PT6A-68 engines powering its Beechcraft T-6TH Texan II fleet. The RTAF’s T-6TH aircraft represent the latest variant of Beechcraft’s T-6 Texan II trainer.

The engine MRO contract covers 12 PT6A-68 engines with the maintenance work to be carried out through an Engine Services Agreement with Textron Aviation Defense LLC and Thai Aviation Industries.

“With maintenance of its fleet of PT6A-68 engines entrusted to P&WC, RTAF pilots can fly the aircraft with confidence knowing the engines are in the care of the company that designed and built them,” said Scott McElvaine, vice president, Marketing & Business Development, Pratt & Whitney Canada.

Pratt & Whitney Canada will provide dedicated support for the RTAF’s PT6A-68 engine fleet covering maintenance, repair and overhaul solutions to ensure maximum reliability and performance throughout each engine’s service life. He said the 1,250 SHP (shaft horsepower) PT6A-68 engine, which powers the Texan II, gives the aircraft jet-like performance, exceptional power response, and precision maneuverability making it ideal for pilot training. This engine/aircraft combination has led to the Texan II becoming one of the most popular military trainers operating today, with more than 900 in service.

The RTAF received its first two of 12 Beechcraft T-6TH Texan II trainer aircraft in November 2022. The acquisition of these trainer aircraft was part of a contract worth approximately US$162 million signed in September 2020. All 12 advanced trainers are now operational with the RTAF Flying Training School at Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom Province. Vietnam is another operator of the Beechcraft T-6TH Texan in the region.
