The ongoing show serves as the backdrop for a significant deepening of ties between RTX and the Republic of Singapore. On the opening day of the biennial event, RTX announces a multi-million dollar investment plan aimed at significantly expanding its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) and manufacturing capabilities within the city-state. This move comes as the Asia Pacific region continues to lead global aviation recovery and growth, necessitating localized support for next-generation airframes and propulsion systems.

Supporting Next-gen Platforms
The core of the announcement involves the signing of three separate Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between RTX and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). These agreements represent a total investment of over US$139 million. The capital is earmarked for the company’s two primary commercial subsidiaries, Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney, to enhance their operational footprint. This expansion is designed to support the entry-into-service of the Boeing 777X and to provide deeper sustainment for the existing Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, both of which are central to the fleet strategies of major Asian carriers.

Long-term Strategy
This investment builds upon a legacy of over five decades in the region. Collins Aerospace is set to introduce specialized MRO services for electrical power systems, including integrated drive generators for the 777X and advanced controllers for the 787’s cabin air compressors and auxiliary power units. These capabilities are projected to be fully operational by 2030, aimed specifically at reducing turnaround times for regional operators who previously relied on long-haul logistics for component repair.

A Staunch Partner
Simultaneously, Pratt & Whitney is expanding its manufacturing and repair capacity for the Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine family. The company plans to enlarge its facility in Tuas by 25 per cent, introducing advanced hot-section coating technologies. This industrial expansion is critical as the GTF engine remains a workhorse for the narrowbody fleets that dominate Asia’s short-to-medium haul routes. The project will also establish OEM-standard engineering expertise locally, further integrating Singapore into the global aerospace supply chain.

Singapore as Regional Hub
Reflecting on the deal, Chris Haave, Vice President of International Operations at RTX, states that these new MOUs reflect the company’s continued commitment to Singapore as a strategic hub for developing next-generation aerospace technologies. On the partner side, the Singapore Economic Development Board emphasizes that the expansion will strengthen the nation’s leadership as a global aerospace hub and create high-value jobs in advanced manufacturing. The sentiment is echoed by local industry leaders who view the RTX commitment as a vote of confidence in the region’s long-term economic stability.

The Main Driver of Growth
The timing of the announcement at the Changi Exhibition Centre is noteworthy, as the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to account for more than half of the global aviation industry’s expansion in 2026. With passenger numbers expected to exceed five billion worldwide this year, the demand for sophisticated, localized MRO services has never been higher. By anchoring these capabilities in Singapore, RTX is positioning itself to capture the surge in demand while mitigating the supply chain disruptions that have plagued the industry in recent years.
