The Russian Ministry of Defence is expected to sign two government contracts for the supply of Su-30SM and the Yak-130 aircraft, Russian Minister of Defence and General of the Army Sergei Shoigu announced recently.

“We have made a decision and will sign this year, in addition to the existing two state contracts worth more than 100 billion roubles (more than 1,3 billion dollars), under which 21 twin-engine, two-seat Sukhoi Su-30SM fighters and 25 subsonic two-seat advanced jet trainer Yakovlev Yak-130 will be built,” Shoigu added during a meeting with representatives industry.

The minister also noted that the next contract will be related to the repair of Su-30 aircraft. Its amount will be 7.2 billion roubles (around one million dollars) which will be concluded in 2021.

These orders are part of ongoing large scale modernisation and addition of new production capacities held by the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

It is worth mentioning that Vietnam and Russia have signed a contract for the supply of Yak-130 combat training aircraft worth more than US$350 million in January. According to sources, the contract stated the purchase of at least 12 aircraft which has replaced the outdated Czechoslovakian Aero L-39 Albatros supplied during the early 1980s.
