SANNI Aims to Lead Naval Industry Vision

: Feb 19, 2019 - : 2:27 am

SAMI Navantia Naval Industries (SANNI), a joint venture between Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) and Spain’s Navantia, aims to provide solutions for the needs of the regional navies including programme management and technological assistance in the development of future Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) naval projects.

Among several proposals, SANNI CEO Antonio Barbera says, the proposal to build landing platform dock (LPD) amphibious assault ships for the RSNF is one of the proposals we have on the table for the future, knowing the long-term needs of the Saudi navy. This is an example that we are not limiting the joint venture to the mission systems and the corvettes, we are here to provide solutions from Saudi Arabia to the Saudi navy”.

The SANNI venture will integrate and adapt Navantia’s combat management systems for Saudi navy corvette ships, Barbera added.

The formation of the JV is part of the leadup to the signing of a contract later this year by the Saudi government for the acquisition of vessels that will be built in-country. SANNI is also in talks with other potential customers in the Middle East, he said.

SAMI owns 51 per cent of SANNI, with Navantia holding the remaining 49 per cent.

In November SAMI and Navantia signed an agreement to jointly manufacture five corvettes for the Saudi navy.
