Saudi Arabia's The Helicopter Company (THC) has signed a letter of intent with Bombardier to acquire up to 60 business jets, marking its entry into the fixed-wing aviation market as the kingdom expands its private aviation sector under its economic diversification plans.
The agreement, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, covers a firm order for 12 aircraft—including five Challenger 3500, five Global 5500 and two Global 8000 jets—with options to purchase an additional 48 aircraft.
The deal would significantly expand THC's operations beyond helicopters into business jet charter and aircraft management. The company, owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), said the move is intended to meet growing demand for private aviation driven by the kingdom's tourism growth, business travel and new economic developments.
THC Chief Executive Capt. Arnaud Martinez said the company has long planned to diversify into fixed-wing aviation, describing the expansion as part of its broader ambition to become a regional general aviation operator.
Bombardier Chief Executive Éric Martel said the agreement reflects growing demand for business aviation in the Middle East and strengthens the Canadian manufacturer's presence in Saudi Arabia.
If finalized, THC plans to build a fleet spanning Bombardier's Challenger and Global aircraft families, covering the super-midsize, long-range and ultra-long-range business jet segments.
The proposed fleet would include the Challenger 3500, designed for regional and medium-haul business travel, the Global 5500 for long-range missions, and the Global 8000, Bombardier's flagship ultra-long-range business jet.
THC said the expansion supports Saudi Arabia's efforts to develop its general aviation industry and build a broader aerospace ecosystem under Vision 2030, the government's strategy to diversify the economy beyond oil.
The announcement comes as Gulf countries continue investing in aviation, tourism and aerospace industries to position themselves as regional hubs for business travel and international commerce.
