Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, has introduced direct flights between Phuket and the Saudi cities of Jeddah and Riyadh, marking the start of a new travel connection between Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
The inaugural flights on 2 December 2024 were commemorated at Phuket International Airport with ceremonies attended by representatives from Saudia, the Airports of Thailand, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The events emphasised the goal of enhancing tourism, trade, and cultural ties between the two nations.
“We are delighted to launch these new routes connecting the breathtaking island of Phuket to the vibrant city of Jeddah and Riyadh. This milestone reflects Saudia’s commitment to expanding our global network and providing exceptional travel experiences. We look forward to welcoming passengers aboard this direct service, offering convenient access to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and beyond,” says Musaed Al Musaed, AVP International Regions at Saudia.
“The launch of Saudia’s direct flight from Phuket to Jeddah and Riyadh is a testament to the growing interest in Thailand as a destination for travellers from the Middle East. This route will undoubtedly contribute to the thriving tourism industry in Phuket, fostering greater cultural exchange and economic growth,” adds Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, Deputy Governor of International Marketing Europe, America, Middle East and Africa at the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
“Phuket International Airport is proud to partner with Saudia in facilitating this new connection to Jeddah. This route not only strengthens Thailand’s position as a premier global travel destination but also demonstrates our commitment to providing world-class infrastructure and support for our airline partners,” adds Mr. Monchai Tanode, General Manager of Phuket International Airport.
The routes will operate three times per week for both destinations. Saudia’s services aim to provide convenient access to its broader network of destinations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
This development aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to diversify the nation’s economy and encourage tourism.
