Show Debut for GA-ASI’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft

Visitors to the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) booth at the ongoing show are greeted with a full-size model of the YFQ-42A Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) produced by the company for the U.S. Air Force. The unmanned aircraft, which made its Middle Eastern debut at the Dubai Air Show in November last year, is being displayed at the DIMDEX for the first time.

The YFQ-42A is a derivative of GA-ASI’s Gambit Series of unmanned combat air vehicles. Gambit is made up of multiple CCA variants that can be rapidly reconfigured from a common core, which enables substantial commonality for rapid and affordable production at scale. Based on the original Gambit 2 concept, the YFQ-42A is designed to complement human-crewed fighters like the F-35 and Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) systems, expanding sensing, weapons capacity, and survivability in contested airspace.

The AI-enabled uncrewed aircraft systems that make up the Gambit series are designed for low-cost mass production. According to company officials, the CCA will pose a significant threat, forcing adversaries to commit valuable resources to combat them – creating gaps in enemy defences for high-end multi-mission crewed fighters to exploit. Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA).  They can act on their own or in concert with the rest of the force.

The Gambit offers multiple aircraft models, including variants for intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance (ISR), air-to-ground engagements, fighter training, stealthy combat reconnaissance, and carrier-based operations. While Gambit 1 is a sensing platform optimized for long endurance, Gambit 2 is designed for air-to-air combat operations. Gambit 5 is the carrier-capable member of the CCA series while the Gambit 6 CCA works with both crewed and uncrewed aircraft to deliver advanced strike capabilities for air-to-ground missions. The series also includes the Gambit 3 – Advanced Trainer and Gambit 4,a combat reconnaissance-focused model with no tail and swept wings. Gambit 4 is optimized for specialized long-endurance missions.

The company has seen enthusiastic demand from potential customers for its Gambit series of aircraft. According to officials, airframes will be available for international procurement starting in 2027, with European missionized versions deliverable in 2029.
