Singapore’s Homegrown Innovators Step Out of the Shadows

The ongoing show serves as a powerful testament to the diversifying industrial base of the Republic. While the presence of local titan ST Engineering remains formidable with its massive pavilion and expansive display, the biennial event highlights a significant shift towards specialised, mid-tier firms and agile start-ups. These homegrown players are no longer merely subcontractors but are now leading the charge in high-growth niches such as laser communications, quantum security, and satellite subsystems, positioning Singapore as a critical node in the Asia-Pacific aerospace supply chain.

As regional travel demand surges and the Asia-Pacific load factor is projected to remain at record highs, the demand for advanced tech solutions is at an all-time peak. This year’s exhibition features over 1,000 participating companies from 50 countries, but the Singapore Pavilion and the newly expanded What’s Next start-up platform are where the local mid-tier energy is most palpable. These firms are addressing the dual-use needs of both civil and military sectors, focusing on the themes of digitalisation, autonomous operations, and the burgeoning in-space economy.

As aviation and defence adapt to shifts driven by sustainability and digitalisation, the show provides a neutral setting for stakeholders to build partnerships with long-term relevance, says Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director of Experia. This sentiment is echoed across the trade floor as smaller Singaporean firms secure deals that were once the exclusive domain of global original equipment manufacturers.

Making Their Mark
Space Summit 2026, which was held in conjunction with the event, provided a dedicated stage for local firms like Transcelestial and SpeQtral. Transcelestial is currently demonstrating its laser-based space communication technology, which aims to provide high-speed internet connectivity across the region by bypassing the need for traditional radio frequency constraints. Meanwhile, SpeQtral is showcasing its progress in quantum key distribution (QKD) satellites, a technology vital for securing future communications against quantum computing threats. These companies represent a new breed of Singapore-born tech that is attracting significant venture capital and international defence interest.

Niche Subsystems
Apart from the high-profile space players, specialised hardware firms such as Zero Error Systems and MEDs Technologies are making waves in the exhibition halls. Zero Error Systems, a spin-off from Nanyang Technological University, specialises in radiation-hardened integrated circuits that protect satellite electronics from the harsh environment of space. By providing high-reliability power management and data integrity solutions, they have become a go-to partner for global satellite manufacturers. This technical depth illustrates how Singaporean SMEs are moving up the value chain, offering proprietary intellectual property rather than just build-to-print services.

Autonomy and the Digital Edge
In the realm of autonomous systems, firms like Quikbot are redefining local capabilities. Quikbot is presenting its latest autonomous delivery robots designed for complex airport and urban environments, representing a new wave of defence and logistics technology innovators. These innovations are being integrated into the Smart City and Digital Aviation zones of the airshow, attracting interest from regional air forces and commercial operators looking to offset rising labour costs. The focus is clear: use the Asia-Pacific region as a springboard for technologies that are scalable, sustainable, and highly digitalised.
