South Korea’s T-50B Aircraft Crashes During Take-Off

: Feb 6, 2018 - : 1:51 pm

A T-50B aircraft of South Korea’s aerobatic display team, participating in the Singapore air show, skidded and crashed into the grass verge at the side of the Changi Airport’s runway during take off. The pilot had a miraculous escape with minor burn injuries.
The runway overrun by the aircraft belonging to Black Eagles aerobatic team occurred at 13:24 hours local time as the aircraft was taking off to join the last flying display of the opening day of the ongoing air show, South Korean Air Force said.
The aircraft turned turtle and caught fire, which was doused immediately by the emergency services at the Changi Airport. The Runway 1 was closed for approximately six hours before it reopened for normal operations.
The South Korean Air Force and Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau are conducting separate investigations into the cause of the accident and potential damage.
The South Korean flight team reached Singapore via Taiwan, the Philipines and Malaysia after it left its base in Wonju, Gangwon Province, on Jan. 26.
The T-50B is manufactured by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) and is powered by a single GE F404-102 engine.
In addition to South Korea, T-50 aircraft have been ordered by Iraq, Indonesia and Thailand, while Philippines has ordered the FA-50 light attack variant of the T-50.
